The Future Of Gardens
Dr Mark Lane
Royal Gardens Of The World

Dr Mark Lane is an award-winning garden and landscape designer, broadcaster and author who has broken barriers as the UK’s first garden designer and TV gardening presenter to use a wheelchair. His pioneering career in horticulture and media has made him a powerful advocate for disability representation and inclusion.

A familiar face on British television, Mark is the gardening and plant expert on BBC One’s “Morning Live” and has presented for “Gardeners’ World” on BBC Two, as well as the BBC’s coverage of the RHS Flower Shows at Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace. His visibility on mainstream platforms has helped challenge stereotypes and create space for more authentic representation of disabled people in the media.

Mark’s impact extends beyond broadcasting. His writing has appeared in the Daily Express, Waitrose Weekend, The Telegraph, Guardian, Sunday Times and BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine. His books, “Royal Gardens Of The World” (2020) and “The Future Of Gardens” (2025), showcase his expertise while promoting accessibility and diversity in design. He is also an ambassador for organisations including the National Trust, Thrive and the Gardening with Disabilities Trust, ensuring disabled voices are heard in spaces where they have been historically excluded.

As a D&I speaker, Mark inspires audiences with his personal story of resilience, creativity and determination. Following a life-changing car accident, he retrained in garden and landscape design and went on to win awards and national recognition. His talks combine lived experience with professional insight, encouraging organisations to embrace accessibility, reframe disability and celebrate inclusion. Warm, authentic and thought-provoking, Mark Lane motivates audiences to see diversity not as a challenge but as an opportunity for growth.
