Having graduated from Harvard Law School in 1985, Vernā began her career as an Associate Attorney with Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault before then joining Fitch, Wiley, Richlin & Tourse as an Associate Attorney. Recognising her talent within her field, Vernā then became the Executive Director of The Boston Law Firm Group and then became the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of the Attorney General in 1997 where she made significant improvements to the initiatives regarding diversity and inclusion, as well as sexual harassment training.
In 1997 Vernā founded the Vernā Myers company which is an internationally recognised consultancy firm on diversity and inclusion that has helped hundreds of clients to implement effective organisational change to improve the working culture. Vernā’s company has been so successful, she has held national and international workshops and it is its own sponsor for their annual Opus Conference on race and ethnicity. In recognition of her world-leading knowledge of diversity and inclusion, Vernā has been featured in Forbes, Bloomberg, Business Insider, Fortune, Diversity Women’s Media Inclusion and Harvard Business Review to name a few. She is also the recipient of The Network Journal’s ’25 Influential Black Women in Business‘ Award and has published two successful books titled ‘What If I Say the Wrong Thing?: 25 Habits for Culturally Effective People’ and ‘Moving Diversity Forward: How to Go From Well-Meaning to Well-Doing’.
As an international speaker, Vernā has presented talks to National Geographic, Warner Bros, NASA, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and The World Bank. Her TEDx talk ‘How to Overcome Our Biases? Walk Boldy Towards Them’ has been viewed online over 4.6 million times.
