June Sarpong has enjoyed a highly decorated career spanning over two decades. She is a politically driven broadcaster who has become one of the most recognisable faces in British media. After appearing on the panel of Loose Women and the Sky News programme The Pledge, June became a popular television presenter and was appointed the BBC’s first Director of Creative Diversity. Today, June is regularly booked for corporate events and conferences to discuss her experience of British broadcasting as a Black woman and share her top tips for inclusion.
June devotes her time to promoting inclusivity and educating the public on the dangers of a lack thereof. As a keynote speaker, she has been invited to countless events, such as the DNA summit, to give her professional insight on topics like the inequalities faced by women and minorities, as well as the gender pay gap. June began her career at Kiss 100 before transitioning to MTV UK & Ireland as a presenter. She has worked on many TV shows in her media career, presenting Playing it Straight, a Mexican-based dating show, Your Face or Mine? with Jimmy Carr and Dirty Laundry. Because she possesses a natural talent for hosting, June was chosen to host the UK leg of Live Earth and Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations. She also hosted the Make Poverty History event, and then the MOBO Awards three years in a row.
In 2015, June joined Sky News’ weekly current affairs discussion show, The Pledge. After leaving the show, she co-founded the WIE Network (Women: Inspiration & Enterprise). This conference featured leading speakers like Donna Karan, Arianna Huffington, Iman, Nancy Pelosi, Queen Rania, Sarah Brown and Melinda Gates. June is particularly passionate about female inclusion, and so uses her role as a public speaker to empower female audiences. In 2007, Sarpong was awarded an MBE for her services to broadcasting and charity, making her one of the youngest people ever to receive an MBE. Then, in the 2020 New Year Honours, June received an OBE for services to broadcasting.
Moving from strength to strength, June then shifted her energy to authoring three award-winning books, Diversify: Six Degrees of Integration, The Power of Women and The Power of Privilege. When booked for events, June delivers. She offers audiences an insight into her experience of diversity and inclusion, particularly within broadcasting, and leaves business leaders with actionable tips for creating a more inclusive workplace culture. Her presentations are delivered with conviction and engaging humour which not only grabs the attention of everybody in the audience but also inspires them to act. She discusses from personal experience a unique view into the world of broadcasting.
