Lord Taylor of Warwick is an influential political figure, recognised through his noteworthy career in legal positions. As a former MP for the Conservative party, John Taylor has experience in noble government positions and continues to offer his outstanding expertise to private companies. In post-political positions, John has progressed into broadcast and media work, becoming known for his appearances presenting on-screen. Owing to a path created in a field lacking diversity and first-hand experience in politics, John is a prime choice as a speaker cultured in inclusion, racial equality, and leadership.
Celebrated for his endowment in politics, John secured his first political position in the public sector as a local councillor for Solihull. He later gained a seat serving as the Conservative MP for the constituency of St Alphege for two months, then became a Special Advisor to the Home Secretary and Ministers of State. In this role, John contributed to establishing the UK’s first DNA database after pioneering the Criminal Evidence Amendment Act 1997. During his political career, John gained a reputation as a devout and effectual orator in the face of racial discrimination. Named The Lord Taylor of Warwick, John was the youngest and only Black peer in the House of Lords.
Extending his nobility, John has been in many positions aiding the community, such as in the education sector. As the UK’s first Black University Chancellor, John founded the Warwick Leadership Academy over 20 years ago. Still dedicated to making a change in education, John has committed to providing young leaders in the making with opportunities to develop their leadership skills. John is also the first Black British Chancellor at Bournemouth University, championing equality. In the business sector, John is known to be an invaluable resource having previously worked in advisory roles, being the Non-Executive Director of Mottram Holdings PLC and acting as Vice-President of the British Board of Film Classification.
Reflecting on the issue of racism and lack of diversity in professional sectors, John is an empowering speaker for all audiences. Having fronted The John Taylor Show, John is an experienced presenter and motivating figure inspiring others to invest in equality, inclusion, and education. Previously speaking at the United Nations and the White House, John is a coveted expert on the matter.
“Can’t thank you enough. We loved having you and would certainly love to have you again soon.”
“Thank You for your passionate speech on the unacceptably high youth unemployment amongst black young people. In London, the unemployment rate for black males between the age of 16 to 24 years old is 30%. Many have applied for an apprenticeship but struggle to get an employer to accept their application. I am heartbroken to see so many young people that I know who have done exceptionally well to get good GCSE grades be on the scrap heap. Black youth unemployment is hidden under the carpet because they do not have a voice on the political stage. Once again Lord Taylor, Thank You.”
