A champion of cultural change throughout her career, Inga Beale was Lloyd’s first female CEO and the first openly bisexual person to be named number one in the OUTstanding & FT Leading LGBT executive power list. Central to the launch of ‘Pride@Lloyds’, an internal employee LGBT support group, Inga is a highly influential figure at the forefront of the LGBT+ community. Now an after-dinner speaker, Inga works to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, experiencing first-hand the negatives a lack of diversity can have on a corporate team.

Beginning her career at Prudential Assurance Company in 1982, Inga was one of the only females, a reflection of the inequality in society at that time. Moving to General Electric’s insurance department, Inga worked her way up, taking a managerial role in 2001. Joining the Zurich Insurance Group in 2008, Inga was a member of their Group Management Board, named the group’s Global Chief Underwriting Officer the following year.

Announced the CEO of Lloyd’s of London in 2013, Inga modernised the company, bringing them into the digital age and directly addressing the lack of diversity in the company. Inga’s goal was to have at least 40% of women in the leadership team at Lloyds, in which she achieved around 37% before she left. The importance of diversity and inclusion have always been integral to Inga’s strategy, and continue to be a fundamental part of her life.

Awarded a DBE in 2017 for her services to the economy, a true testament to Inga’s outstanding achievements and influence in the world of business. Inga continues to use her authority in the corporate world to inform businesses of the importance of a diverse workplace. A topic she regularly discusses as a keynote speaker, Inga offers businesses actionable strategies to help them create a genuinely diverse and inclusive workplace.

We chose Dame Inga Beal to be the first key note speaker hosted by our global LGBTQ+ ERG. The event was to mark the international day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. Overall we were extremely happy with the talk Dame Inga gave. Champions UK were also extremely helpful and always at hand throughout the whole process of organising the event.

We would highly recommend Dame Inga, we received fantastic feedback from the session with many people commenting on how impactful, inspirational and personal the story Dame Inga shared with us was. Her willingness to tackle any difficult questions that were raised during the talk made the event even more powerful and enabled us to convey the importance of an inclusive culture in the workplace.
