Sue Sanders is a pioneering LGBTQ+ rights activist, educator, author and speaker, best known for co-founding the UK’s first LGBT History Month. An outspoken advocate for equality and inclusion, Sue has dedicated more than five decades to challenging discrimination, promoting LGBTQ+ visibility and transforming education. As Co-Chair of Schools OUT UK, she has played an influential role in advancing inclusive teaching and celebrating LGBTQ+ history. An openly lesbian campaigner, Sue is hired as a speaker for her extensive experience in activism, education and diversity, inspiring audiences to challenge prejudice and champion meaningful social change.
Sue began her career in 1967 as a teacher, tutor and lecturer, specialising in women’s studies, drama and homophobia in schools. In 1996, she co-founded Chrysalis before becoming Co-Chair of Schools OUT in 2000, an organisation dedicated to promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion in education. In 2004, Sue worked alongside fellow activist Paul Patrick to establish the UK’s first LGBT History Month, creating an annual celebration of LGBTQ+ achievements, identities and contributions to society.
