Matt Gupwell is a distinguished diversity and inclusion keynote speaker specialising in neurodiversity. With more than 17 years of research and applied experience, he draws on his lived experience of ADHD, autism, dyslexia, addiction and anxiety disorders to deliver evidence-informed, practical insights. Diagnosed later in life at 46, Matt brings credibility and candour to conversations about difference, performance and belonging. His work reframes neurodivergence from a deficit narrative to a strengths-based perspective, helping organisations recognise untapped capability and design environments where people can thrive.
Matt’s early career spanned multiple industries, where he both excelled and encountered significant challenges while undiagnosed until the age of 46. These formative experiences shaped his understanding of systemic barriers and the cost of misunderstanding difference. Since 2008, he has supported families, educators and leaders to look beyond labels and focus on the whole person. In 2021, he founded ThinkNeurodiversity, a consultancy dedicated to neurodiversity, performance and inclusive design across sectors. He later became Co-Director of Divergence Works CiC, advancing research-informed and human-centred approaches to difference. His appointment as an Ambitious about Autism Ambassador further reflects his commitment to advocacy and systemic change.
Over the course of his career, Matt has partnered with organisations including the UK Government, ASOS, Sony Pictures and the NHS to strengthen awareness and improve workplace practice around neurodivergence. He is also a professional mentor to individuals with ADHD and autism, supporting late-diagnosed adults to navigate identity, confidence and career progression. His TALKADHD podcast, recognised by the World Federation of ADHD, is regarded as the only evidence-led ADHD podcast in the UK. Alongside this, he is preparing to publish his first book focused on supporting adults through late diagnosis.
Organisations hire Matt Gupwell to move diversity and inclusion beyond policy and into practice. He equips HR leaders and executive teams with practical frameworks for inclusive recruitment, retention and performance management. EEES™️ has been created by Matt to provide a framework that makes communication, collaboration and understanding easy. It combines real-world explanations of how Environmental Factors, Executive Functions, Emotional Regulation and Sensory Challenges show up in everyone at some point. Each of Matt’s signature talks uses this framework to move away from labels and diagnoses and to remind us that behind every condition, struggle or change in presentation we see is a person needing understanding, empathy and support. His presentations address the commercial and human impact of neurodivergence, challenging myths while offering actionable strategies. Clear, grounded and research-led, Matt’s keynotes leave audiences with the confidence to create cultures where neurodivergent talent is understood, valued and enabled to contribute fully.
“Matt, you are incredible. Your enthusiasm, honesty and passion left a lasting effect on all the team. Thank you again.”
“The team were blown away by your presentation and some were also genuinely quite moved by what they learnt. Thank you so much and I’m really very pleased you were able to shift the dial with the team.”
“What stood out most in Matt’s talk was a rare kind of authenticity. He didn’t show up as an expert speaking from above, but as a human being sharing his reality. He spoke with honesty, in his own words, without filters or pre-packaged answers. What truly resonated was his ability to say, “This is how I experience things,” and to embrace both his vulnerabilities and his strengths with full transparency.”
“I had the pleasure of attending one of your training days about ND in the workplace. It’s had a real positive personal impact – not only professionally to support our EDI agenda and helping individuals feel empowered and included but also individually, particularly with how ND may present differently for girls. The delivery was really engaging, open discussion and a great session I’m recommending to colleagues.”
