Manizha Talash, known globally as B-Girl Talash, is an Olympic breakdancer, human rights advocate and fashion designer whose remarkable journey has made her one of the most compelling voices in diversity and inclusion today. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, she rose to international prominence as an Olympic breakdancer and captured worldwide attention during the Paris Olympics when she wore a repurposed burqa bearing the message “FREE AFGHAN WOMEN”. Through her courage, authenticity and willingness to challenge inequality on one of the world’s biggest stages, Manizha has become a powerful advocate for representation, freedom of expression and women’s rights. Her experiences offer audiences a unique perspective on overcoming barriers, embracing identity and creating meaningful change in the face of adversity.
Manizha’s journey began when she discovered breakdancing as a teenager through a video on Facebook. Inspired by what she saw, she tracked down the dancer featured in the clip and joined Superiors Crew, becoming the only female member among dozens of male dancers. As Afghanistan’s first recognised female breakdancer, she faced intense opposition, including criticism from family members, public hostility and death threats. The challenges intensified when her dance community became the target of multiple attacks, ultimately forcing the club to close. Following the Taliban’s return to power and the ban on dancing, Manizha fled Afghanistan, first seeking refuge in Pakistan before relocating to Spain. There, she continued to pursue both breakdancing and fashion design, eventually earning a place at the Olympics.
Alongside her sporting achievements, Manizha has become a recognised international advocate for human rights and women’s empowerment. Her story and activism have been featured by major global media outlets, including CNN, BBC, The Washington Post, Reuters and Human Rights Watch. Through these appearances, she has brought global attention to the experiences of Afghan women, refugees and marginalised communities while highlighting the role of sport and creativity as tools for empowerment.
As a diversity and inclusion speaker, Manizha delivers a perspective few can match. Her lived experience spans displacement, gender inequality, cultural barriers and the challenges of building a new life as a refugee. She speaks with honesty about identity, belonging and resilience, demonstrating how individuals can remain true to themselves despite immense pressure to conform. Drawing on her experiences as an athlete, artist and activist, she inspires audiences to embrace difference, champion inclusion, and create environments where every voice can be heard. Whether speaking at corporate events, educational institutions, leadership conferences or human rights forums, Manizha leaves audiences with a deeper understanding of courage, representation and the transformative power of inclusion.
