An iconic boxing promoter, Kellie Maloney made headlines when she underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2014. Formerly known as Frank, Kellie led a number of high-profile boxers to world titles and has since become one of the most popular diversity and inclusion speakers in the country. Kellie’s journey from one of the most male-dominated industries to her transition was not seamless. When booked as a speaker she is able to explain what it was like coming to terms with her true identity and the struggles she’s had to overcome.
Kellie’s 30-year career as a boxing promoter saw her manage Lennox Lewis as he became Heavyweight Champion of the World. As well as this she worked with David Haye, Darren Sutherland and Rendall Munroe. In her prime Kellie was regarded as the best in the business and named ‘Boxing Promoter of the Year’ in 2009. Despite her sporting prowess perhaps Kellie’s biggest success came in 2014 when she publicly announced she was a trans woman. Having battled with her identity for years she made the brave decision to tell the world and undergo gender reassignment surgery. Her heart-wrenching story has even become the feature of the 2020 documentary on Amazon Prime: From Frank to Kellie. During her diversity and inclusion speaking events, Kellie is a huge advocate for the LGBT+ community and can explain the prejudices and stigma as well as positive reactions she’s received since her transition.
In the early 1980s Kellie, then known as Frank, was a prominent figure on the British boxing scene. After working with a number of big-name boxers, Kellie became Lennox Lewis’ manager in 1989 a move that would see the pair forge a long-lasting relationship.
Now, Kellie is helping to grow the profile of women’s boxing managing a number of up-and-coming fighters. Having recognised the need for greater inclusion of women in the sport, Kellie has committed to using her decades of experience to champion greater gender diversity. She’s also well-known as a popular TV personality who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity MasterChef.
When booked as a speaker Kellie can use her eye-opening story to inspire audiences everywhere. With each presentation, she’s able to break down stereotypes as well as share her fascinating stories. “Kellie’s presentation was very well received by all of our employees across the 4 UK sites, and I have already received feedback from several employees commenting on Kellie’s honesty and openness to discuss what is clearly still a very personal and difficult subject. Some of our employees have described her talk as “Inspirational” and it has certainly achieved the desired effect of raising the awareness of Mental Health and the need to seek help. I would recommend Kellie to others who are trying to raise the awareness of mental health and remove the stigma associated with acknowledging that “it is ok to be not ok”
“Thank you so much for speaking with us today, it was truly a great experience. You were very candid and very open with some very painful experiences. It takes a lot of bravery and strength to stand up in front of an audience and be unashamedly yourself. You allowed us to see a tiny part of your life, but what a life and what a story. I personally, can’t wait to see the next chapter and I am looking forward to seeing more in your film when it is completed. Your passion is your gift. Thank you for sharing it with us all.”
“I wanted to thank Kellie Maloney for the attendance of our event on Friday 7th of June 2019, Ms Maloney is an absolute dream to work with, Her presence at the event was a thrill for all who attended, and it was amazing how completely at ease she makes every feel, she is charming, personable, fantastic conversationalist, very witty and a remarkably clever and brave lady… I think that Kellie actually took it upon herself to make a real point of chatting to everyone at the event and this in itself is a tremendous skill. It was amazing to be helped and guided by yourself as well as an agency, we felt very supported in our booking and recommend Champions Speakers and Kellie Maloney to everyone.”
“I just wanted to pass on a massive thank you to Kellie. She did a fantastic job and the team are feeling very moved after her talk. It was a worthwhile discussion that has enlightened us all.”
