A truly inspirational sports stars, Charlie Martin is the first-ever professional transgender motorsports driver who has broken numerous records during her career. Having competed in motor racing across several different disciplines, including the European Hillclimb, Ginetta Gt5 Challenge and Britcar, Charlie has broken stigma in what is often deemed a ‘male sport’. In her capacity as a diversity and inclusion speaker, Charlie is committed to raising awareness of the stigmas faced by trans people and the LGBT community, both in sport and day to day life.
Back in 2018, Charlie began competing in the Ginetta Gt5 Challenge series, a supporting category of the British GP Championship. During the Silverstone round of the event, Charlie successfully led a campaign for her and her fellow drivers to display rainbow stickers on their cars in support of Gay Pride. With motorsport often a male-dominated sport with little diversity, Charlie’s presence has made her a trailblazer for trans athletes everywhere. Charlie has also competed in the likes of Michelin Le Mans Cup, VLN and Britcar as well as taking part in the ‘Race at Home Challenge’ for Formula E. This move saw her make history as the first-ever trans driver to be associated with Formula E.
Growing up, Charlie always knew her real identity but struggled with gender and sexuality issues. When she was just seven years old, she came out to her family as transgender saying she was influenced by the iconic trans model Caroline Cossey. At her diversity and inclusion speaking events, she can highlight these experiences advocating for equality across both motorsports and in society generally. Charlie continues to combine her racing with her activism stating she “wants to share her story with everyone.” Away from the track, she has her own YouTube channel, Girls For All Seasons, where she regularly promotes trans and LGBT issues.
When booked as a diversity and inclusion speaker you are hiring a true trailblazer. Charlie can inspire audiences everywhere she goes with her powerful dedication to normalise transgender representation.
