Hayley Mulenda is an entrepreneur and international, award-winning keynote speaker who sheds light on mental health, well-being, vulnerability, and personal development. A graduate of the University of Kent and the University of Sussex, Hayley is also the author of ABC’s to Student Success. She emphasises the importance of authority, being still, and competence. Having experienced incredible lows while managing her education, business, and personal life, Hayley now focuses on well-being and personal development. She shares her philosophy with others at various corporate events to help peers and the next generation navigate their mental health journeys.
Ranked 4th in the Top 10 Black Students in the UK by Rare Recruitment, Hayley’s journey has been without challenges. As a mental health advocate and change agent, she leverages any platform available to her to emphasise the importance of mental health. She hosts the podcast Building You, which discusses growing through life rather than merely going through it. Hayley has also appeared on BBC Radio 1’s podcasts and debuted in the Huffington Post. In 2017, she founded and was CEO of the Building You Masterclass in London, a monthly event featuring special guests to encourage personal growth.
Her work has earned her recognition as one of the Most Influential and Inspirational Black Entrepreneurs in the UK under 21. She received the Positive for Youth Inspire Award, the Best Congo Award for Best Author/Writer in 2018, and was a runner-up for the 2017 Queen Young Leader award. Hayley has spoken at prestigious venues such as Wembley Arena, Oslo Spektrum, and The Houses of Parliament. Her unique approach to explaining Gen-Z and Millennial issues to senior leadership has led to collaborations with companies like Harrods, Google, KPMG, JP Morgan, the UK Cabinet Office, Microsoft, and other major corporations. She has also worked with notable personalities such as Melinda Gates, Rupert McNeil, Thomas Heier, and Gavriella Schuster, earning her the Jack Petchey Achievement Award.
A TED Talk speaker on The Danger of Being a Role Model, Hayley is a Brand Board Member of Wagamama Restaurants, a Governor at St Angela’s Ursuline School, and President of the Youth Advisory Board. Her expertise in understanding Gen-Z is invaluable in these roles. She has also been a Camp Counsellor at the YMCA in the Greater New York area, a Youth Councillor and Young Mayor Candidate for the London Borough of Newham, and an Ambassador for One Young World. Passionate about mental health advocacy and positive change, Hayley is an experienced keynote speaker, having addressed audiences in Europe, the USA, and Africa since 2015.
